Letter from head office ref AGM

Firstly, we’d like to wish you a very Happy New Year!
Unfortunately, it looks like 2021 will be another challenging year for all of us, both personally and from
a Club perspective. However, the Club is in good shape – structurally and financially – and we know
we can be agile and respond to the external environment and challenges that arise.
With the current high level of restrictions that are in place across the UK, all our UK Club Sites are
closed. Greenfields House will open for those staff that are unable to work from home only, and all
Main Committee Meetings, including the February National Council meeting, will take place via Teams.
The majority of our staff will continue to work from home. However, please communicate with all of us
in the same way as you normally would.
In relation to all Club Units, we are asking that all AGMs due to be held between 1 February and
30 April 2021, be held virtually.
We appreciate that Notices of your AGMs have been included in the Club magazine, stating a date,
time and venue. We ask that the date and time remain the same, but that the meeting be held virtually.
You will need to communicate this out to your members via your usual channels, and we will
include a piece in the February and March magazine to highlight that all AGMs will be held
virtually, and not at the venue listed, but on the same date and at the same time.
We understand that many of you will have held remote meetings and be very comfortable with the
process, but that others may not have. We ask that you seek support from your Region/National
Section in running your AGM, if you feel that you need help.
We will take a view on AGMs scheduled to take place from 1 May 2021 in due course.
Thank you for your support through these challenging times.
Bob Talbot, Club Chairman
Sabina Voysey, Director General

Cancellation of 70th birthday at Lochwinnoch

Also the winter walk in Dec and bowling in January has now also been cancelled. We understand it’s unfortunate but due to local restrictions and uncertainties, we have decided to cancel these meetings with immediate effect.

Linlithgow THS

Linlithgow THS 13th June to 1st July 2019

Linlithgow is a small town in Central Scotland near Falkirk which has the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. Linlithgow site is on the edge of the town within walking distance of the loch and the palace, birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Linlithgow celebrates their Riding of the Marches (Marches Day) on Tuesday 18th June with bands and decorated floats marching round the boundaries of the town.

Saturday 22nd June is Linlithgow Gala Day with the crowning of their Gala Queen in front of the palace. Again bands and decorated floats and primary school children march along the High Street.

Thursday 27th June in Bo’ness Fair E’en, the evening before “The Fair”. Thousands of people from near and far walk round the town of Bo’ness viewing the decorated house frontages, this year with the Queen Elect’s school retinue using Mary Poppins as their theme. The other 4 primary schools in Bo’ness all have their own themes – see Bo’ness Fair website for further information.

Friday 28th June – The Fair Day – the largest children’s festival in the UK – is held in Glebe Park with the crowning of Queen Kennedi and the local primary schools all dancing in front of the thousands of people present. A parade round the town then follows with an afternoon performance of dancing and entertainment in the Douglas Park. A great variety of bands come from all over to perform by leading each school into the park and round the town – we have pipe bands, accordion bands, a Samba band and even some from Norway who attend every year.

Linlithgow is ideally suited for anyone wishing to visit the Royal Highland Show at Ingliston, near Edinburgh. Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd June are this year’s dates. Buses run every 20 minutes from the High Street straight to the Show.
